One person died and many others were injured on Tuesday when hoodlums clashed at the Wesley College area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The situation lasted about three hours before security operatives intervened.
Before security men arrived, the hoodlums were said to have caused a scene at Labo, Orita Aperin, Elekuro, Kosodo and Oranyan areas, brandishing dangerous weapons.
Many were injured while trying to run to safety. The cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as at last night.
Sources said the hoodlums had been threatening to clash, and that the fracas had been brewing for about three days before Tuesday’s situation.
National President of Soludero Hunters Association Wahab Anabi, who led his men to intervene before security operatives arrived, confirmed the death and injury toll.
Ajijola said: “A man was stabbed to death at Kosodo. They were about 700 hoodlums who were invited from neighbouring streets. They used pistols, animal bones, bottles and clubs to stab and injured many people.”
Police spokesman Olugbenga Fadeyi said an unidentified man was killed in the fracas. He added that the police were able to disperse the hoodlums and stop the fracas.
Fadeyi added that one suspect has been arrested. “They attacked themselves around Idi-Oro, Wesley College. It has been on in the last three days. Police have been on their trail, trying to forestall these attacks. Police dispersed them and they ran away. One died and one person was arrested,” he added.
