The M6 was closed northbound in Lancashire after a ‘serious collision’ on Thursday afternoon that saw two people die.
Highways England says the closure was to last for ‘several hours’, with the road closed for almost nine hours in total.
Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance units were called to the scene of the incident between J32 and J33, north of Preston.
Highways England reported that the motorway northbound has been fully closed and traffic held as emergency services respond.
A spokesperson said: “This full closure will be in place for several hours. Expect considerable delays in the area.”
There were delays of at least 40 minutes northbound on the M6 and 25 minutes on the M55 eastbound.
Tragically, police confirmed this morning that two people died in the crash.
