Just In: FG releases list of states that will reopen schools in July

It’s well known that some months ago due to covid-19 pandemic, the Federal Government officially ordered for the closure of all sectors in Nigeria, including educational sector with the view of easing the spread of coronavirus.

Since the shutdown of schools, Reopening of all educational sectors in Nigeria has been a bone of contention between the government and the citizens as students and parents express concern about continuing closure of school.

Most students across the country have been asking when schools would reopen. They have been eager to know when exactly the federal government would fix a date for School resumption.

President Muhammadu Buhari who is the commander in chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, made a broadcast on the democracy day approving the ease of lock down. Before then, president Muhammadu Buhari in conjunction with the federal government has vested powers on the state governments to decide when to lift lockdown in their various states. For instance, restrictions on churches and mosques have been lifted by the federal government yet some states like Lagos didn’t agree to the decision of federal government due to the persistence increase in the number of affected persons in their state.

In reference to what the federal government said, here are list of states that will reopen schools next month being July 2020 as was revealed by their governors:

1. Oyo

2.Cross Rivers

Oyo state Government had earlier directed all terminal classes which include Primary Six, Junior Secondary School Three, and Senior Secondary School Three to resume on June 29 ahead of preparations for their various exams.

However, a statement was released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, said Teachers will be the only ones to resume on Monday, June 29 while students in terminal classes will resume on July 6.

With this new system, Teachers are to resume on Monday June 29, 2020, while all students in Primary 6, JSS3 and SS3 will resume a week later on July 6, 2020.

All students and teachers are therefore advised to wear face masks, while the schools are to prepare hand washing spots to ensure regular washing of hands.

It was stated that the state Government will have a review by July 15, to know whether the remaining classes will resume or not.

Cross Rivers state had scheduled a trial resumption of some section of schools by June 16, while given students and teachers personal protective equipment (PPE).

However, the Covid-19 Presidential Task Force advised that it was not safe to reopen schools.

In sync with this the possible school resumption date in Cross Rivers will be July 2020.

Looking at the attempt of the above governors in reopening of schools, do you want schools to resume on July 2020?
