Chelsea’s final 23-man roster for the FIFA World Club Cup semi-final has been announced, and one Chelsea player has been left off. Reece James has been left out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup team, according to FIFA.
The 22-year-old was included to the 23-man team that flew to Abu Dhabi for the tournament, but he has now been dismissed after failing to recuperate in time from an injury that has kept him out since December. Reece James has been replaced on the FIFA team list by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Mendy was a member of the Senegal side that won the African Cup of Nations on Sunday after defeating Egypt in a penalty shootout, and he will be part of the team in Abu Dhabi. After testing positive for Covid-19, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was unable to accompany the club to Abu Dhabi.
Chelsea’s squad for the Club World Cup includes Kepa Arrizabalaga, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen, Jorginho, Thiago Silva, Ngolo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Marcus Bettinelli, Trevoh Chalobah, Edouard Mendy, Saul Niguez, Hakim Ziyech, Ross Barkley, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi,
