Chelsea set to sign Oblak from Atletico as a best replacement for Kepa

Chelsea are set to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as their No.1 goalkeeper target this summer, for kepa’s replacement.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has seen current first-choice Kepa Arrizabalaga struggle badly this season with the club now looking at potential replacements.

Atletico Madrid keeper Oblak, 27, has a £120m buy-out clause in the contract he signed last year with the deal due to expire in 2023.

But Chelsea keeper Kepa could be used in a player-plus-cash deal for Oblak to try and offset the huge fee which would be a world record for a goalkeeper.

Chelsea would value Oblak at less than £100m and would hope o put Kepa into the package to come up with a good value deal.

Oblak is regarded by many as the best keeper in the world, speaks English as one of five languages and has already proved himself on the Champions League stage.

Atletico would not want to sell but the global pandemic could leave them tempted by a big offer especially if they were also gaining a replacement in Kepa.

Kepa has won 10 caps for Spain but has struggled with the physical style of English football and Chelsea have leaked goals this season which has been a major concern.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2018 for £71.5m but has struggled to live up to the huge price tag and, even though Lampard has backed him publicly, he did drop him earlier in the campaign to give Willy Caballero a run of games.
