Chelsea are eager to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro because the team is worried about having no backup for injured Reece James.
The right wing-back position has been occupied by the England international defender for the entirety of the campaign, and Chelsea manager Graham Potter appears to be interested in finding James a suitable replacement.
According to a report from football.london, the Blues are prioritizing a move for Porro because Potter, who is working rebuilding his team in the winter transfer window, considers the 23-year-old fullback to be very important.
Tottenham Hotspur are still very keen in signing the Sporting defender, and Antonio Conte’s team is poised to give their city rivals Chelsea, who spent handsomely in January on incoming talent, a hard time for Porro.
Spurs are reportedly in negotiations with Sporting’s management about a possible deal for the player, but they have refused to agree to pay the whole asking amount up front and would prefer to pay it in a series of installments.
