Done Deal as Arsenal complete first January signing of talented left-back, announcement imminent

There is just a week of the January transfer window remaining and Arsenal remain eager to bolster their squad as they look to secure a top four Premier League spot come the end of the season

Arsenal’s midfield remains an area of real concern for Mikel Arteta so it is no surprise to see the club linked with a number of potential recruits in that area this month.

The most prominent name of them all, however, is Paris Saint-Germain’s Georginio Wijnaldum, with past reports suggesting that the player was unhappy in the French captial.

He left Liverpool in the summer on a free transfer but has struggled to nail down a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI at the Parc Des Princes.

It was subsequently reported that Arsenal were interested in taking the 31-year-old on loan this month as Arteta looks to address a midfield shortage.

It was a rumoured move that club legend Ian Wright was fully on board with.

“I saw Wijnaldum’s name. That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG,” Wright said at the start of January.

“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.

“Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.”

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano went on to say that the midfielder was eager to fight for his place in Paris and that a January departure was unlikely.

But recent reports that PSG could sign Tottenham outcast Tanguy Ndombele have sent the rumour mill whirring into life again, with suggestions that Spurs could bring Wijnaldum in on loan as part of any deal.

This is something that was once against dismissed by Romano on Monday.

“Tottenham are prepared to push on Adama Traoré deal starting from today. Talks will re-start with Wolves to enter into final details & reach the agreement. Club confident to complete the new signing,” he wrote on Twitter.

Before crucially adding: “No talks to include Gini Wijnaldum into Ndombele loan deal as of now.”

It is something that can give Arsenal confidence that a deal for the Dutchman can be resurrected in the future, with the addition of another midfielder unlikely to do Wijnaldum’s playing opportunities any favours.

Could Spurs decision to loan Ndombele to PSG ultimately work in favour of their arch rivals?
