Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner and the American has now fueled those rumours after he was caught signing the famous red and white shirt.
The Gunners were worried that Bernd Leno would leave the club this month. The German dropped out of the side after Mikel Arteta decided to give Aaron Ramsdale a chance in the Premier League.
The Englishman stepped in goal and impressed everyone. He has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league this season – both with his hands as well as his feet – and there’s no way back for Leno as a result.
To replace the German, Arsenal are reportedly keen to sign Turner, and he has now dropped a hint about a potential move.
The United States Men’s National Team faced El Salvador in the World Cup qualifiers a few hours ago and Turner started in goal.
The 27-year-old kept a clean sheet to help his side get an important win. Although he didn’t really have a lot to do in the game, whatever he did, he did really well. The American maintained a stunning 93% passing accuracy, which highlights why Mikel Arteta and Edu are keen to sign him.
Right after USA’s win, Turner stopped to sign a few autographs for some fans. The cameras picked that up and what has caught everyone’s attention is the fact that he was spotted signing an Arsenal shirt.
Arsenal and New England Revolution haven’t announced anything just yet, but a few other sources have revealed that a deal is indeed done.
ESPN, who shared that video on Twitter, revealed that Turner completed his move to Arsenal earlier in the day. Fabrizio Romano too claimed that a deal has been agreed and all that’s left is paperwork.
If Arsenal manage to wrap up this move today, Turner will be the Gunners’ first signing of 2022. However, Romano has revealed that he will stay in America until the end of the season and he will only move to the Emirates in the summer.
