Why Chelsea denied penalty à against Man City

Chelsea started the season with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Despite losing 2-0, it was a game Chelsea would feel they should have at least taken a point.

When Chelsea were losing 1-0, Chelsea had a clear penalty call as Mateo Kovacic handled the ball in the penalty box. However, referee Anthony Taylor opted against blowing for a penalty.

Premier League Match Centre has given an official explanation as to why Chelsea were denied a penalty.

According to the Premier League Match Centre, VAR “confirmed the referee’s call of no penalty, deeming the ball came from close proximity.”

However, Kovacic clearly handled the ball, and his hand was in an unnatural position. Chelsea fans will feel aggrieved by this decision.
