Chelsea fans were left frustrated by a familiar source during their opening day 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The Blues were frustrated on a number of occasions that they weren’t awarded a penalty at Stamford Bridge, with Anthony Taylor in charge of another early-season Chelsea fixture.

It was admitted after the 2-2 draw with Tottenham in 2022 that Taylor had made a mistake in not handing a red card after a deliberate hair pull on Marc Cucurella, who had a rough outing yesterday.

The most notable example saw a Mateo Kovacic potential handball waved away after a Malo Gusto cross, with the former Blue going on to score to put the dagger into Enzo Maresca late on.

Thiago Silva has reacted to Taylor’s poor refereeing on social media before, and seems to have personally been angered by his performance in the middle again.

He took to Instagram to simply use the referee’s first name, as well as using a host of emojis that suggest he seemed to miss a number of big moments.

Maresca does not have long to pick his side up before they are in action, with them looking to secure their place in the Europa Conference League on Thursday as their qualifier against Servette takes place.

There are a number of winnable Premier League games to come too, with the boss seeing a number of individual displays that should encourage him going forwards.

Chelsea fans want Pedro Neto to start

Chelsea fans seemed to agree that Pedro Neto should start the next game for the Blues, with them looking a lot brighter on the left wing after his introduction in the second half.

There was also the impressive display of Romeo Lavia, with many even more impressed considering it was his first competitive start since his move to the Blues over a year ago.

The Blues will be back in action in the Premier League on Sunday with their first away game of the season against Wolves.
