Darren Bent instances on Cole Palmer's 2033 contract extension

Chelsea announce Cole Palmer has signed a new contract at Chelsea Training Ground on August 13, 2024 in Cobham, England.

Chelsea supporters across the globe will surely have all been celebrating the news on Tuesday coming out of the club.

The Blues have just confirmed that Cole Palmer, 22, has signed a contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer only joined Chelsea last summer from Manchester City on a seven-year deal. However, he’s been rewarded for a remarkable debut season in West

London with a two-year extension, which means he’s now under contract until 2033.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admits he hopes to emulate Palmer after joining Chelsea himself this summer, as quoted by The Daily Mail.

The reality is Palmer’s debut campaign will be very difficult for anywhere to repeat. He was outstanding in the Blues attack last season, scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists across all competitions.

Darren Bent reacts to new Cole Palmer deal

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has reacted positively to the Chelsea announcement that Palmer has extended his contract with them.

Bent told talkSPORT (4:30pm, 13 August): “Cole Palmer gets a seven-year deal, a lot of money. He is also protected if an injury happens. He won’t go anywhere.

“On the flip side as well, if he has an absolutely outstanding another two years where he scores 20 20 and goes, well, I want to leave, if it starts to get a little bit nasty, the club then go, you have got another six years left, you are not going anywhere.”

Building the team around Cole Palmer

New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is inheriting a large squad stacked with a lot of young talent, but there’s no doubting that Palmer is the jewel in the crown. When others around him were struggling last season, he took it on his young shoulders to lead from the front.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether Palmer is used on the right wing or more centrally as an attacking midfielder. Regardless, he’s got to be the first name on the team sheet.

The Chelsea fanbase would have gone into panic mode if there were any suggestions that their attacking star could leave, so tying him down to an even longer deal can only be good news.
