'We didn't want to take a risk', Pochettino reveals why Nkunku was kept on the bench

After today’s match, Mauricio Pochettino was able to give a relatively positive flash interview. He was asked by BeinSports why he had left the man everyone wanted to see, Christopher Nkunku, on the bench.

'We didn't want to take a risk', Pochettino reveals why Nkunku was kept on the bench

You can see the Chelsea coach speaking in the clip by following this link. He put it plainly he “didn’t want to take a risk” by using the attacking midfielder freshly back from a long term injury. There are plenty of games to come, and given we were winning, he was never going to be risked.

We knew it was never going to happen, at least from half time. Nkunku was the only player on the Chelsea bench who didn’t warm up at all, and it was clear from that point that he’d been put on the bench more to lift morale and because so few other options were available.

As he admitted, Pochettino was never going to take a risk on using him, and the moment we were a goal up, our chances of seeing him dropped to zero.
