Former Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has admitted that the club signed a player when he was in charge that he was not actually aware of.
He told the ‘Obi One’ Podcast that the addition of Oscar from Brazil came without him having any real knowledge of the player.
Di Matteo’s time in charge of Chelsea was certainly short, but will be forgotten by no Chelsea fan for what was achieved.
The Blues won the FA Cup and Champions League during his time in the hotseat, whilst also undertaking one of the most important transfer windows in the club’s history.
It saw the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesar Azplicueta join the club at young ages, with them going on to establish themselves as club legends during their time here.
However, another addition seemingly came as a bit of a surprise to the Italian, with him claiming that he had no real knowledge of Oscar before he joined.
He said: “Oscar, I didn’t know much about Oscar. He was from the recruitment side, he was brought forward and I think he was going to be more of one for the future.

“But I put him in and thought wow he’s a good player, not that I was surprised. Really good player, really good guy.”
Oscar proved to be another very important player for the Blues, before an offer too good to turn down for anyone came in for him to move to play in China.
The Brazilian always talks with great admiration of his time at Chelsea, consistently stating he would love to make a return if the opportunity arose.
He is currently continuing to represent Shanghai, maintaining an impressive record of goals and assists in comparison to his total appearances.
