Chelsea to sign world-class defender

Chelsea are joining Arsenal in the race to sign Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande, viewing him as the heir to Thiago Silva.

Arsenal could miss out on Ousmane Diomande with Chelsea now interested in signing the Sporting centre back.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Chelsea are now looking to land another defender to replace Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian is now 39 and is out of contract at the end of the season, so Chelsea would be wise to think about successors.

Chelsea join race for Ousmande Diomande

TEAMtalk now report that Chelsea are tempted to make a move for Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande in 2024.

It’s stated that Chelsea scouts were impressed with Diomande whilst playing for the Ivory Coast against Morocco.

Diomande is also shining in Portugal with Sporting and Chelsea are now interested in making a move.

The report highlights that Diomande does have a huge £69million release clause in his contract, leaving Sporting in a strong position.

Diomande cost just £7million less than a year ago but his performances and ‘immense potential’ according to former teammate Gui Ferreira mean that Chelsea could make a big move.

Arsenal could face Mykhailo Mudryk repeat

The strongest rumours surrounding Diomande have involved Arsenal.

Mais Futebol and CNN Portugal reporter Bruno Andrade suggested earlier this year that Arsenal were keen to land Diomande from FC Midtjylland.

The rumours haven’t gone away though as Record suggested in September that Arsenal have already offered £30million for Diomande.

Sporting refused to sell but the belief is that Arsenal would still love to land Diomande at some stage.

The rumours of Chelsea joining the race may leave Arsenal fans thinking about a Mykhailo Mudryk repeat.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Mudryk for months before Chelsea managed to swoop in and secure his signature.

Chelsea could do the same again with Diomande, leaving Edu and co with plenty to think about ahead of the January transfer window.
