Chelsea activates contract extension for 21-year-old defender

Premier League giants Chelsea football club will most definitely remain keen on winning some trophies under the management of Mauricio Pochettino before the end of this season.

Do remember that the West London club have endured a rather difficult start to the new 2023/2024 and are currently occupying the 11th position on the Premier League table.

However, Chelsea football club are delighted with the performances of some players within their squad and are now making moves to keep them at the club beyond the end of this season.

And if reports are anything to go by, then Chelsea football club have now extended the contract of highly-rated left-back Ian Maatsen in order to keep him at the club.

The 21-year-old Netherlands International, who has been with Chelsea football club since 2018 gained promotion to the first-team squad earlier this year after series of loan deals.

The young left-back is back with the Chelsea first-team squad for the new 2023/2024 football season and he has made eight appearances in all competitions for the club.

However, Ian Maatsen had less than a year left on his current contract with Chelsea football club, but according to latest reports from Fabrizio Romano via his verified Twitter page, the Blues have now moved to extend his contract.

The reports further claimed that Chelsea football club do not want to lose the young Ian Maatsen on a free transfer next year and have now activated a clause to extend his contract.

It is believed that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino believes the highly-rated Ian Maatsen is one for the future and he wants to keep the left-back at the club beyond the end of this season.

And with his contract now set to expire in June 2025, it remains to be seen if the young Ian Maatsen will choose to extend his contract further or he will be interested in a move away from the club next year.
